How this works
This tool compares your net worth to simple UK benchmarks by age band. It's meant to be quick and motivating, not perfect.
What counts as net worth?
- Assets: cash savings, ISAs/investments, pension (if included), property equity, other valuable assets.
- Debts: mortgages (on your share of equity), loans, credit cards, overdrafts.
- Net worth = Assets - Debts

Household vs individual
You can enter either individual or household figures. The benchmarks are based on individual net worth, so if entering household figures, consider dividing by the number of adults for a fairer comparison.
Pensions
Many UK wealth statistics include pension values. We let you choose whether to include your pension in your assets. If you're unsure of your pension value, you can exclude it, but note that this may make your position appear lower than it actually is.
Benchmark data
Our benchmarks use percentile-style ranges (median/p50, p75 and p90) by age band to give a quick UK-wide comparison. They're simplified for education and will be refined as we expand our published sources and methodology.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is net worth and how do I calculate it?
Net worth is the total value of your assets minus your total debts. Assets include cash, savings, investments, property equity, and pensions (if you choose to include them). Debts include mortgages, loans, credit cards, and overdrafts. Simply subtract what you owe from what you own.
Should I include my pension in my net worth?
This is a personal choice. Many UK wealth statistics include pension values, which can significantly impact your net worth. If you're unsure of your pension value or prefer a more conservative estimate, you can exclude it. However, excluding it may make your position appear lower than it actually is.
How accurate are these benchmarks?
The benchmarks are simplified "rules of thumb" based on age bands. They're meant for educational purposes and general guidance, not precise financial planning. Real wealth depends on many factors including housing costs, household size, regional differences, and individual circumstances. For accurate financial planning, consult a qualified financial advisor.
What's the difference between Quick Mode and Detailed Mode?
Quick Mode lets you enter total assets and total debts directly. Detailed Mode breaks these down into specific categories (cash, investments, property, mortgages, loans, etc.), which can help you get a more accurate picture and ensure you don't miss anything. Both modes calculate the same net worth.
What do the percentiles (p25, p50, p75, p90) mean?
Percentiles show where you rank compared to others in your age group. P50 (median) means half of people have more and half have less. P75 means you're wealthier than 75% of people your age. P90 means you're wealthier than 90% of people your age. These help you understand your relative position.
Is my data stored or tracked?
No. All calculations happen in your browser. We don't store, track, or transmit your personal financial information. You can use this tool with complete privacy.
